Why Does The Aerospace Industry Need More Licensed Engineers?
Everyone knows that the COVID-19 Pandemic caused an unprecedented market downturn for the global commercial aviation industry. Recovery has been difficult and uneven but as vaccination programs prove successful and national restrictions ease, new data demonstrates that the aerospace industry is experiencing an undeniable resurgence. As the world turned its back on overseas travel in early 2020, aerospace industry revenues dropped to a total of $328 billion, around 40% of 2019’s revenues. In fact, ICAO’s latest AIR TRAFFIC report illustrates that in 2020, the aerospace industry saw a decline of 60% in domestic and international passengers in comparison to 2019; specifically, the industry counted a reduction of 2,699 million passengers overall.
Fortunately, thus far into 2021, the aerospace industry has regained 10% of its losses from the previous year. According to Boeing’s 2021 – 2040 COMMERCIAL MARKET OUTLOOK, demand for domestic air travel is leading the industry’s recovery. Regional markets are now expected to follow as remaining health and travel restrictions ease; which has led Boeing to forecast that long-haul travel figures will return to pre-pandemic levels by 2023 to 2024. A substantial supply of personnel is required for the industry to prosper, and according to Boeing’s 2021 – 2040 PILOT AND TECHNICIAN OUTLOOK, long-term demand for licensed aircraft engineers is strong; as Boeing estimates that 626,000 engineers and maintenance technicians are needed to support the global commercial fleet between 2021 and 2040.
In conclusion, the demand for licensed aerospace engineers will remain strong.

PROSPECTIVE B787 COURSES:
Last month, we awarded all of our recent aircraft engineering students their certificates as our Boeing787 course came to an end. The EASA-approved course consisted of 6 weeks of theoretical knowledge lessons at our base at London Luton Airport, alongside a week of examinations, and thorough practical training sessions at a nearby hangar. The course was led by industry-leading instructors, Andy Moreman and Paula Collins, and was suitable for B1 and B2 engineers that were keen to add to their licenses. The students were all extremely satisfied with the course and the standard of teaching delivered by both Andy and Paula.
On the 18th October 2021, we began our Boeing787-8/9/10 WITH GENX AND RR T1000 DIFFERENCES course. This is a type-training course and consists of both online theoretical knowledge lessons and practical training sessions on an aircraft.
Our next Boeing787-8-9-10 (B1/B2) WITH GENX AND RR T1000 DIFFERENCES course will be commencing on the 31st January 2022 and ending on the 31st March 2022. This online theory course will last 59 days. PROSPECTIVE B737 COURSES:
Our experienced instructor, Michael Sheehan, is currently teaching our Boeing737NG course with online theory and practical training for B1 and B2 engineers looking to upgrade their licenses. The course is currently being delivered online, from our purpose-built studio at our base in the Airport Executive Park at London Luton Airport, but will also include 14 days of practical training sessions on an aircraft.
We are due to hold another Boeing737NG course soon.
COURSE 15/15a/15b/15c:
We will be commencing our Boeing737-600/700/800/900/ (CFM56) B1/B2 COMBINED course on the 1st November 2021. This is an online theory course, that will be ending on the 17th December 2021. Exams for this course will be taking place in-house and running from 20th December 2021 to 23rd December 2021. This course will last 35 days. The practical training element of our Boeing737-600/700/800/900/ (CFM56) B1/B2 COMBINED course will be commencing on the 10th January 2022 and ending on the 21st January 2022. COURSE 12/12a/12b/12c:
We will be commencing our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED course on the 29th November 2021. This is an online theory course that will end on the 15th December 2021. Exams for this course will be taking place in-house; from the 16th to the 17th December 2021. This course will last 12.5 days. The practical training element of our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED course will be commencing on the 20th December and ending on the 21st December 2021. This practical training will be taking place on an aircraft in a hangar at London Luton Airport. This course will last 2 days. The second practical training element of our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED course will be commencing on the 22nd December and ending on the 23rd December 2021. We will be commencing our Boeing737(NG) -600/700/800/900 (CFM56) B1/B2 COMBINED course on the 10th January 2022. This online theory course will end on the 25th February 2022. Exams for this course will be taking place in-house; from the 28th February 2022 to the 3rd March 2022. This course will last 35 days. The practical training element of our Boeing737(NG) -600/700/800/900 (CFM56) B1/B2 COMBINED course will be commencing on the 7th March 2022 and ending on the 18th March 2022. This practical training will be taking place on an aircraft in a hangar at London Luton Airport and will last 10 days.
COURSE 04/4a/4b/4c:
We will be commencing our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED course on the 24th January 2022. This online theory course will be ending on the 9th February 2022. Exams for this course will be held in-house; on the 10th and 11th February 2022. This course will last 12.5 days. The practical training side of our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED will be commencing on the 14th February 2022 and ending on the 15th February 2022. This practical training will take place on an aircraft in a hangar at London Luton Airport and will last 2 days. The second practical training element of our Boeing737(MAX)-7/8/9 (CFM LEAP) B1/B2 COMBINED will be commencing on the 16th February 2022 and ending on the 17th February 2022. This practical training will take place on an aircraft in a hangar at London Luton Airport and will also last 2 days.

British School of Aviation is a UK-CAA and EASA approved aviation training organisation. We’re an academy that specialises in teaching (and facilitating the teaching of) aspiring aviation professionals including; licensed aircraft engineers, UAV operators, commercial airline pilots, and flight attendants. We have a large engineering workshop on-site and keep an AIRBUS A320 flat-panel cockpit simulator in our ATPL classroom, which will help pilots-in-training get to grips with flying an aircraft. Just a short walk from our academy resides a Level D full-motion AIRBUS A320 simulator.
